Conditions for renewing a residence visa in the Emirates

١٧ مارس Conditions for renewing a residence visa in the Emirates

There are different types of residency in the United Arab Emirates , including work visas, spouse work visas, investor visas, business visas, freelance work, study visas, tourism visas, and even a visa to bring in a maid in Dubai . Like other countries, there are fines for those who are late in renewing their residency visas or for those who do not renew them.

Fine for late renewal of residence 2022

The sponsor must expedite the renewal of the sponsored person’s residence visa in the UAE as soon as it expires, in order to avoid a fine for late renewal of residence in the country, or any other legal consequences. According to the law, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs grants a grace period of up to 30 days, during which the sponsored person is allowed to remain legally in the UAE immediately after the expiration of the validity period of his residence visa, after which financial and legal penalties will be imposed.

According to the residence fines system in the United Arab Emirates, the fine for staying in the country after the grace period has ended varies based on the time period. You can view the residence renewal fees in the Emirates 2020 in case of delay, as follows:

  • 125 AED for the first day
  • AED 25 for each day thereafter
  • 50 AED for each day exceeded after six months of the grace period
  • 100 AED for each day exceeded after one year of grace period

The ID card expires at the same time as the visa, so it must be renewed before applying for a residence renewal.

Renew before expiration

If it is necessary to renew the residence visa before its expiry from one to six months, the holder must obtain prior approval from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in the emirate in which the visa was issued. Factors for renewing it before the expiry of its validity period include travel, health conditions, and others.

Renewing a residence visa requires the same conditions as issuing a visa for the first time, whether for residents sponsoring their families, or for sponsoring a work visa, which are:

  • Sponsor with valid residency
  • Passing the mandatory health fitness test for those over 18 years of age
  • Health insurance card, currently mandatory in Dubai and Abu Dhabi only
  • Renewing the identity card from the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship
  • Application form submitted online or from licensed typing offices to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in the relevant emirate
  • Original passport of the sponsored person
  • Personal photo of the sponsored person

As for renewing the residency sponsorship of private sector employees, the sponsoring company must submit the following additional documents to avoid incurring any fines for delaying the renewal of residency in Dubai and the rest of the cities of the Emirates.

  • A copy of a valid establishment card
  • A copy of the establishment’s valid commercial license
  • A copy of the sponsor’s work card, duly renewed
  • A copy of the work card renewal receipt for those aged 60 years and above

If you are a sponsor of their family and relatives, such as husband or wife, children, parents, siblings, and first and second degree relatives, you must submit the following additional documents upon renewal, to avoid the fine for late renewal of residence 2020 in the Emirates.

  • A copy of the husband/wife’s employment contract, or the company contract if the sponsor is an investor or employer
  • Salary certificate from the employer showing the employee’s monthly salary
  • An official and certified marriage certificate, if the sponsorship is for the wife.
  • Registered residential lease contract for the sponsor
  • Latest water and electricity bill for the sponsor’s residential property
